NOVEMBER 8, 2024 - PORTLAND, OR - Last month, New Wave Opera produced our first-ever fully-staged production: NIGHT OF THE LIVING OPERA, featuring four operas by living composers, as well as a new art song. Over 500 people attended, filling the Manor with lively conversation and applause throughout both evenings.
These contributions will go a long way to helping us bring the work of living artists to listeners throughout Portland and beyond - funding video recordings of our performances, supporting fair artist wages, and creating more avenues of accessibility to attend & enjoy the world of contemporary opera. New Wave Opera's role in providing a platform for artists to share the stories they want to tell, creating more opportunity for underrepresented voice types in opera, and providing paid work to locally-based performers will be more important than ever in the coming years, and we couldn't be more excited to dig in and do the work necessary to make it happen.
