ABOUT THE SHOW It's alive!! Night of the Living Opera is an evening of creepy contemporary operas in English that are the perfect way to get in the mood for Spooky Season! Enter a world of witches, murderers, and artists gone mad in a nightlife venue with themed food and drinks. Featured Repertoire: Serial Killers and the City by Del’Shawn Taylor and Joanie Brittingham: in this parody of Sex and the City, a group of stylish girlfriends get together to swap stories about their latest murders over Bloody Mary’s and Charcuterie boards. But things get tense when FBI Agent Small unexpectedly joins them for brunch! The Oval Portrait by Felix Jarrar: based on Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories, a painter slowly falls into a drug-induced madness. THUMP by Portland composer Kimberly Osberg: based on Edgar Allan Poe’s Gothic classic The Tell-Tale Heart, this psychodrama explores the psyche of a multifaceted narrator who has committed an unspeakable crime, as well as their relationship to their victim. A chilling tale of loss, resentment, and guilt. she conjures by Portland composer Lisa Neher and librettist Bea Goodwin: in this feminist tale of witches, crows, curses, revenge, and redemption, Grissall, the daughter of the last witch burned in Scotland, seeks justice with the help of her mother’s feathered familiar, Caraid. Scottish folk music infuses this mysterious and haunting story. PREVIEW, FEATURING RENEGADE OPERA: The Raven by Jesse Preis (Wednesday, October 23rd performance only): a chamber opera composed for three voices and piano from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem of the same name. In this opera, the narrator (told from their point of view at two different stages in life) deals with emotions tied to the loss of a loved one. We then witness these complicated, painful, and even terrifying emotions become personified through the character of the raven. |

RUN OF SHOW |
Reservations are hosted through the Raven's Manor website, with our event taking place both Monday, October 21st and Wednesday, October 23rd.
A cover charge of $10 per person (non-refundable) applies, or $15 per person at the door without a reservation (so, a group of 4 would be charged $40 if reserving online, or $60 at the door). Reservations will only be held for a maximum of 10 minutes from your arrival time. While walk-ins are welcome, wait times are expected to vary widely throughout the night so we strongly recommend making a reservation! If you need to cancel your reservation, please do so through your reservation confirmation email. When reserving, be sure to select the right number of guests when looking for available seating times! As of 10/03/2024, reservations for parties of 2 - 5 are largely sold out, but tables for parties of 6 or greater are still available. We can try to pair smaller groups together at the same table if you contact New Wave Opera directly, but cannot guarantee we will be able to do so. Due to the busy season, there is a 2-hour time limit on all tables. We have organized our performance to make sure that guests can see all four operas within these windows, even if you arrive in the middle of a particular run. We have start times at 5:15pm, 7:45pm, and 10:15pm for our three sets of performances each evening. If you have questions about your arrival time and what to expect, just get in touch! The guest performance by Renegade Opera will take place only on Wednesday's performance, starting sometime between 7:15 and 7:30pm. On Monday evening, we will share a special performance of a Poe-inspired work by performer & composer Carolyn Quick. |
