ABOUT THE SHOW Join Susan McBerry's Periwinkle Studio for New Wave Opera's annual outdoor concert & fundraiser: Summer Splash! This all-ages backyard concert features tuneful opera arias, duets, and art songs by living composers, some of whom live in your own backyard! Snacks & drinks of the adult and child-friendly varieties both provided. Featured Repertoire: The performance will feature previews of our September double bill of Marie Curie Learns to Swim by Jessica Rudman & Kendra Preston Leonard and Alice Tierney by Melissa Dunphy & Jacqueline Goldfinger. Plus, additional music by Monica Chew, Jodi Goble & Basil Considine, Portland's own Carolyn Quick, and more! What drives an archeologist to spend days and days digging in the dirt? How does a chemist push through illness and professional obstacles to make world changing discoveries? And just what *is* a siren to do when her sisters eat her boyfriend for dinner? Find out at Summer Splash! A new mom, up late feeding her baby, muses that she should have worn bikinis more before her body transformed through pregnancy & childbirth. A jazzy and seductive serpent makes his argument for taking a bite out of the apple in the Garden of Eden. A grandmother encourages her granddaughter to learn something every day. With music by Portland's own Carolyn Quick & Lisa Neher plus Monica Chew, Danielle Jagelski, Emerson Eads, Libby Larsen, Jake Heggie, Jodi Goble, Marie Herrington, Jessica Rudman, Melissa Dunphy, and Michael Ching and poetry by Marianne Moore, Monica Chew, Jacqueline Goldfinger, Caitlin Vincent, Kendra Preston Leonard, Carolyn Quick, Sarah Teasdale, Danusha Laméris, Basil Considine, Philip Littell & Robert Creeley.
